We would be delighted to meet you around a few bubbles and some music for the launch of this new magazine dedicated to photography, Afropeanness and the fusion between Europe and Africa! This event is organized in conjunction with the Rencontres du Xème whose 9th edition is patroned by Marvin Bonheur.
Thanks to Ruinart for supporting this festive event!
For this new issue, The Eyes invites its readers to a visual exploration of what it means to be Afropean, a notion of expertise of our guest curator Johny Pitts, a British photographer and author, who questions in his work the interaction of black and European cultures. Singular historical and contemporary photographs, seminal books and pioneering journals will explore this “in-between”, this fusion of Africa and Europe and the diversity of black identities as they are experienced in Europe (Afrodescendants and Caribbean identities). Entitled B-Side, this issue is strongly inspired by music, the field that gave birth to the term “Afropean”. B-Side is also an opportunity to take an offbeat approach and focus on the B-side, the one that we don’t hear much and that we see most often in a marginal way.
