With What a Woman Is Worth: Les douze heures du jour et de la nuit, the photographic duo Elsa & Johanna – see my article of September 21, 2021 on the volume they designed for the Percevoir collection of Editions de La Martinière – deconstructs female identity assignment, imagining twenty-four portraits of women they embody by appearing between the pages of the treatise, sometimes masking the text with their presence, or facing one of the twelve engravings in the book.
