Synesthésie Océanique

BELGIUM
Laure Winants prints time and captures the impact of the continuum through the prism of light.
She uses experimental techniques to capture the impact of pollutants on the coast and underwater light phenomena.
Through her concept of abyssal synesthesia, she creates impressions of the seabed and sound compositions resulting from the sonification of data collected by scientists.

These works, which she describes as “fossils of the future”, are created using scientific instruments that study light, optics and bioacoustics.

Combining the fundamental elements of chemistry, physics and photography, it exposes the alteration of the properties of photosensitive paper in contact with marine samples, offering a visual and aural reflection on the challenges of marine pollution and the fragile balance of the Ocean.

Her Fossils of Future project explores the interactions between living entities and environments, and questions our relationship with the non-human. Her works are sensitive to light, time and humidity. Her work has been exhibited internationally and can be found in collections in Europe and China.
