Nièpce Award Gens d’Images 2019 was won by Raphaël Dallaporta

Presided by Héloïse Conéra, curator for contemporary photography at Bibliothèque Nationale de France, and composed of personnalities from photography, photographers, producers, critics and publishers, the jury awarded Raphaël Dallaporta for his career, on the suggestion of Gabriel Bauret.

“Each artist is unique. Some more than others. Raphaël Dallaporta has an unusual place in the photographic scene. His yearnings and curiosity drove him to build bridges between science and anthropology. He built, on his own or in collaboration with editors such as the late Xavier Barral, unclassifiable artistic objects, in publishing as well as in exhibitions. Layout and scenography are his main concerns, not that he overlooks the photographic material and its reproduction on paper, to which he is very attached. Nowadays, contemporary art echoes prehistory as shown in an exhibition at Centre Pompidou. Raphaël Dallaporta could come within the scope of this approach, but he widens even more the spectrum of his reflections with his exhibited works at La Terrasse in Nanterre.”
Gabriel Bauret, May 2019.
