Frac MÉCA initiated a photographic commission in 2022, inviting 9 artists to take a fresh look at the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. The exhibition Arpenter, photographier la Nouvelle-Aquitaine (Surveying and photographing Nouvelle Aquitaine) presents a selection of works produced as part of this major commission. The artist and guest curator of The Eyes Fracture journal tackled the theme of the region’s “ecological situation”, questioning the ecological as well as visual future of Nouvelle Aquitaine.

For this 14th issue of The Eyes, we invite British photographer and video artist Chloe Dewe Mathews. Together, we look at the historical and contemporary link between photography, nature and environmental destruction. FRACTURE invites readers to use the image as a means of taking time to reflect, and perhaps even as a way of inspiring action.
